“You’re changing lives. The donation is just one small piece of it. All the time that people put in at community centers providing services is a huge endeavor. I’m just a piece of it. It’s much, much bigger than just me. It’s a great organization to be a part of. You selfishly feel good about yourself doing these things.”
“Maria and her family live in Guatemala. The first time I met them in 2016, she was failing in public school where only the very basics were taught and even supplies were almost nonexistent. Maria knew very little outside of her limited impoverished world and had no plans to return to school.
When I learned that sponsorship includes additional support options, I coordinated with the family along with Children International staff and we developed a wish list. Now, Maria’s family has a roof that does not leak and a concrete floor that does not turn to mud when it rains. In addition, they have beds, can depend on having food each day and Maria’s little brother has regular asthma medication. Now he is healthy, happy and growing! But, perhaps best of all, Maria and her sister are attending a nearby private school where they are excelling.
This past October when I was able to visit again, I found this courageous family joyful and full of hope. A little help has made such a big difference and that matters in our shared world community.”

“Children International has helped make the sponsorship experience more personal. From the day we first began sponsoring children in the Philippines, we received a letter from the local agency thanking us and encouraging us to visit. The CI staff has helped us help the children, and we can see the results.”

“I don’t want to give the impression that money is no object for me. I work hard to make a decent living. But my monthly contribution to Melody is pretty painless. I have now seen firsthand how far that money goes and how meaningful it can be to the people who receive it. When I visited, the way I was welcomed, like a member of the family, was almost embarrassing to me in light of what is really a minimal effort on my part. Seeing this impact firsthand has inspired me to sponsor another child!”

“Kids just want to be kids no matter where in the world you are. CI makes a tremendous difference in their lives offering them education, health care, opportunities and a chance to just have fun.”

“I have become so connected to the children and their families. I never thought that being involved in sponsorship would be such a big part of my life. I read something on the CI Social Center recently that describes how I feel about my sponsorship experience: ‘You will never completely be at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.’”

“Knowing that I have the ability to make life better for somebody else is a powerful thing. I watch my girls grow from sad-faced, defeated children into confident, beautiful adults, and I think, ‘I helped them do that. I actually made a difference.’ It’s an amazing feeling.”
